FAQs

  • Having an online therapy session is easy! When selecting a time for your online counselling session, you will receive an email with a link to our secure online platform. Should you have any questions during the process, please reach out.

  • Online counselling sessions are best experienced on a computer or laptop using Chrome. If you’re on an iOS device (iPhone, iPad), or android, you will need the Jane Online Appointments app which is available on the app store.

  • Yes! The online counselling system that we use is compliant with Canadian privacy regulations. This means that video, audio, and chat communications cannot be recorded. Online sessions are also encrypted and none of the data is stored anywhere at anytime.

  • Many clients who do not live alone have found that these solutions help:

    • shutting their bedroom door and turning on some music/white noise

    • sitting in your car for the session

    • asking their roommates/partner/family to go for a walk or drive

  • $115 per 60 minute session. GST included. (Visit Rates page for more information.)

  • We accept all major credit cards and e-transfers to contact@prairiestrengthcounselling.com. You can add your credit card information to your client profile.

  • Depending on your health insurance provider or employee benefit plan, it is possible for online counselling services to be covered in full or in part. There are many insurance plans that are covered. Please contact your provider before the first online counselling session to see if RPC-Cs through the CPCA are a part of your insurance plan and to verify how your plan compensates you for online counselling services. I don’t offer direct billing but I will be happy to provide you with anything you need to submit for possible reimbursement, including a receipt upon payment.

Please visit the Rates page for more information on insurance coverage.

  • A mental health professional can help you approach your situation in a new way – teach you new skills, gain different perspectives, and listen to you without judgment or expectations. Furthermore, counselling is completely confidential. You won’t have to worry about others knowing details of your life that you would rather keep private. Lastly, if your situation provokes a great deal of negative emotion, and you’ve been confiding in a friend or family member, there is the risk that once you are feeling better you could start avoiding that person so you aren’t reminded of this difficult time in your life.

  • Unfortunately, there is not one answer to this. The number of sessions can vary greatly (3 to 20 sessions, for example). After a full intake assessment is complete, a treatment plan will be created and discussed with you.

Some clients choose to continue maintenance sessions after the initial treatment period, or come back to work through new situations that arise.

  • Your session time is reserved just for you. A late cancellation or missed visit leaves an empty session in the day that could have been filled by another client. Clients who provide less than 24 hours’ notice for a cancellation or miss their appointment (after 15 minutes has passed it is considered a missed session), will be charged the full fee, unless it is for illness or emergency reasons.

  • Your first session will begin with us discussing what brought you to counselling. What makes this session a bit different than the rest of your sessions in that we will spend a fair amount of time time discussing some of your history along with me ensuring I have a clear and thorough understanding of your issues and challenges. I will complete a full assessment during our conversation. You will leave the session with an understanding of my counselling approach, have set goals, and a clearer picture of what our time together will look like.
